Volunteer Opportunities
Our Society is made possible by volunteers who donate their time and efforts to help fulfill our Mission "... to educate the general public and members of the Society in genealogical research, and, to preserve, collect, compile, publish and disseminate genealogical data and family history."
In return the volunteer can gain experience with fascinating historical records, meet interesting people, challenge themselves to learn something new, and most of all know that they are helping to ensure the success of our Society.

Volunteer opportunities
Moderators
Moderate a new workshop called Genealogy Garage. Tune up your research methods. Meeting locations to be determined. Would like to hold meetings at annex, Family History Center, Petaluma Library, Windsor Library, senior centers throughout county.
Moderate a new workshop called Lunch and Learn. Based along the same idea as the Garage but over food. Could be breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.
Special Interest Group (SIG). Moderate a new SIG titled Genealogy Software. Meet monthly and discuss the many uses and choices of genealogy software.
Research
Sonoma County newspaper index project. Extract names from archived newspapers for a publication to continue the series already started by the Society.
Create a list of Genealogical sites that could be linked on our website for benefit of our members and the public.
Create a list of all genealogical related resources in Sonoma County to be posted on our website for the benefit of our members and those researching in Sonoma County.
Create an all name index to the Sonoma Searcher for the missing years.
Volunteers
SCGS board member. Become part of the team dedicated to the vitality of the Society. Help determine the direction the Society takes and the benefits it provides.
Videographer. We will start recording our monthly meetings and place them on the Societies website for members to view at their convenience. Never worry about missing another meeting.
Field Trip host. Help plan and guide SCGS members field trips to repositories. The California Genealogical Society in Oakland, The California State Archives in Sacramento, other local genealogical society meetings. Even a trip to Salt Lake City LDS archives.
Social media guru. Help the society manage their social media accounts.
SCGS projects chairman. Create, recruit, manage and publish all SCGS projects. Make monthly reports to the board.
SCGS projects committee. Join the SCGS projects committee and help shape the projects that the Society publishes.
Webmaster assistant. Help manage the SCGS website as we continue to add more content and value for members.
